CALLING AND CAREER: WORKING IN A SIN FALLEN WORLD (GEN. 3:17-19)

Work is not the curse of sin, but the frustration, difficulty and burdensome nature of work is. So, let's consider what it means for us, as Christians, to work in a sin-fallen world, and how the purpose of God for work can be redeemed.

CALLING & CAREER: THE BLESSING OF WORK (GEN. 1:27-30, 2:4-7; 3:17-19)

Work was a part of God's blessing on mankind, not a curse. There is no question that sin changed the nature of work. The implication from these passage is that prior to the fall work was fulfilling and enjoyable. As a result of the fall work became unfulfilling, burdensome toil, meeting the resistance of thorns and thistles (problems, challenges, difficulties in making a living).

Today, we want to look at recovering the blessing of work.

RECEIVE: WAIT & RECEIVE (ACTS 1:4, 8)

RECIBE: ESPERA Y RECIBIRÁ
Jesus promises that if we will wait on the Lord, we will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on us! Waiting on the Lord develops in us the disposition that is inviting to the Holy Spirit. Acts 1:8 reveals two aspects of the disposition of soul that is inviting to the Holy Spirit.

RECEIVE: ASK & RECEIVE (LUKE 11:9-13)

In this passage, Jesus gives us an incredible promise of prayer: Everyone who asks receives! Jesus' intent is to inspire us to pray because no matter how infinite God's power is to answer prayer, the prayer that is not prayed cannot be answered. Not only does Jesus want to encourage us to pray, but He wants to encourage us to pray for the Holy Spirit. He concludes with the promise that our Loving Heavenly Father will give the Holy Spirit to all who ask Him! So as we consider the words of Jesus, let us be encouraged to pray to be filled or re-filled with the Spirit.

CELEBRATING A NOT SO PERFECT MOTHER'S DAY (1 SAMUEL 1:10-20; 2:1, 5)

Mother’s Day is a wonderful occasion to honor mothers. It is a time of celebration in which we remember our mothers, and express our love and appreciation to them in special ways.

However, amidst all the cards, the flowers, phone calls, and dinners, we need to know that this day is a mixed blessing. So today we want to talk about celebrating a not so perfect Mother’s Day, and we want to look at a woman, whose life’s circumstances were not so perfect.

RECEIVE: THE KEYS TO RECEIVE (LUKE 11:5-13)

RECIBE: LAS CLAVES PARA RECIBIR
Jesus promises believers an experience of the Spirit subsequent to and distinct from salvation, which He elsewhere refers to as the baptism in the Holy Spirit, or being filled with the Spirit. This experience empowers the believer to live life as He is calling us to live, and to do the work of Christ in the world. It is an experience available to every believer, and in this passage Jesus gives us three keys to receiving the baptism in the Holy Spirit.

RECEIVE: WHY HAVE WE NOT RECEIVED? (ACTS 8:18-24)

When everyone else received the baptism in the Holy Spirit, Simon did not. Simon’s experience reveals some of the factors that can possible hinder us from receiving the baptism in the Spirit.

This message is intended to encourage us to recognize and remove whatever hindrances may be present in our lives, so that we can receive the wonderful gift that God desire to give us.

RECEIVE: OVERCOMING THE BARRIERS TO RECEIVING THE BAPTISM IN THE HOLY SPIRIT (ACTS 2:1-12)

As we consider the experience of those who received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit on the Day of Pentecost, we are going to look at it from the perspective of those who have not yet received the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. This message will help us to identify and overcome some of the barriers that might be keeping us from receiving the Baptism in the Holy Spirit.

Nothing can substitute for the person and presence of God empowering the lives of believers and the church through the experience of the Baptism in the Holy Spirit.

ALIVE!

It couldn’t be more simple than this: you were...but God...through faith!!! We were dead, but God has made us alive in Christ through faith! That is the story of Easter experienced over and over again every time someone comes to faith in Christ. The same power that raised Jesus from the dead, makes us alive in Christ.

This message considers the Easter Story, our story, more closely. It is a story of tragedy, triumph and transformation.
