Shortly before Jesus ascended into heaven, he instructed His followers to wait for the wonderful gift of the Father, the gift of the Holy Spirit, which He has promised to every believer. This gift, which Jesus also referred to as the baptism in the Holy Spirit, would be crucial to their personal spiritual life and growth, as well as that of the church.
The 120 in the upper room waited for 10 days for the Holy Spirit to be poured out upon them. Waiting in the Bible never means to sit around and do nothing. We learn a lot about what is involved in waiting as we look at the 120 who waited for the promise of the Father.
