It is significant, that the Father affirmed His love for Jesus prior to the start of Jesus’ ministry – Jesus had not preached a single sermon, healed anyone, or cast out one demon, yet He received the Father’s blessing. This divine affirmation announced Jesus to the world as the Messiah, but it also prepared Jesus personally to walk in His destiny. It reveals much to us about how to walk in our destiny as well.

We need to understand that salvation is not just about making it heaven and spending eternity with God. If that were the goal of salvation, God would take us out of the world the moment we got saved. Yes, salvation encompasses the glorious promises of heaven but salvation is also for life in this world. Salvation is not about us going to be with God at some time in the future, it is about God coming to live in us now, to make us agents of His kingdom in this world. Salvation involves intimacy with God in this present life, which empowers us to be agents of God’s kingdom in this present world. We need to move from a salvation mindset to a kingdom mindset.

God has called us to be world changers, to be city changers, but it starts with being changed by the power and presence of Christ. It is only when we truly experience and learn to walk in new life, in who we are in Christ, that we are able to clearly communicate His life in the midst of the darkness and brokenness of our communities.
To be able to influence and affect society, we must know who we are in Christ, and we must walk in the transformed reality of our new life in Christ. Walking in new life in Christ involves three dimensions of God's work in our lives: a new identity, new intimacy, and new integrity.

CAMBIADORES DE TU CIUDAD: UNA VISION PARA NUESTRA CIUDAD

God has called us to be city changers. The question is how can we change a city, especially as densely populated an area as this. There are 1.5 million people within a 5 mile radius of our church that do not know Christ. So when you talk about being city changers, we can look at that and ask can we really make a difference? Can we truly affect a city? And if so, where do we even begin?
The answer to those questions are found in another situation where Jesus called His followers to do something where the task seemed so much greater than their limited resources that they couldn’t understand how Jesus could expect them to do anything about so great a need but as they acted in faith supernatural power was released to accomplish the task.

Carried away into exile in Babylon, the Jews found themselves displaced from Jerusalem and in the midst of a pagan society. This is exactly where the church is today in modern America. We are now living in a post-Christian era, in which society is not only indifferent but even hostile towards the church and Christianity.
We find ourselves in a situation very similar to the Jews in Babylon in the midst of a pagan society, and God’s message to them through Jeremiah, is God’s message to us today. Like the Jews in Babylon, God wants to use this as an opportunity for us to rediscover our mission to be a light in the midst of darkness. God is calling us to make a difference in our city -- to be city changers -- and Jeremiah’s message teaches us how to do that.
