Jesus calls us to move beyond to the “Come, follow me” stage. We have to move beyond encounter, to engaging in a sustained relationship of following Jesus. That’s called being a disciple, a disciple is a follower of Jesus.

Whenever Jesus calls us to something, it is a better calling, a higher calling, than were we were before. The call to “Come, follow me” is an essential step in our journey of spiritual growth. So today we want to look at His calling to “Come, follow me” and what that looks like in practical terms in our life

How many of us have every heard or used the phrase “come check this out!” It is an invitation to come and see, explore, investigate, or experience something new, interesting, or exciting for yourself. Jesus invites us to do just that with the words “come and see.” That’s where each of our journeys with Christ began.

Faith is a journey, and we are all at different places in our journey. That journey unfolds in four callings or invitations that Jesus issues to us all: Come and see, come and follow, come and serve, go and proclaim. We will be looking that each of those stages in the journey, but for everyone of us that journey starts, with the invitation of Jesus to come and see.

The first visitors to the tomb, found it empty. Jesus’ body was missing. They didn’t know what to think. They were afraid, but the angel calms their fears and tells them that Jesus is risen. He is no longer here! Go and tell His disciples. The women ran as fast as they could to tell the disciples that Jesus is risen. In that moment, everything changed! Hope was alive!

That is the reason we have gathered today, to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. This is the day that changes everything. Why is the resurrection so important? What difference does it make to us? It gives us hope!

Jesus didn’t only come to take our place, and pay the price for our sin, but to set a pattern for us to follow, that we too would deny ourselves, and lay ourselves down for the sake of redeeming the world from sin and reconciling lost mankind to God.

Denying ourselves means that His mission comes before our ambition. To take up our cross, means that we must lay our lives down in devotion to Him and His saving purpose. His mission must be central to our life, to the way we live and all that we do. Are we living missionally?

Looking to Jesus as our pattern demonstrates several principles of what it means to live missionally.
