Many Christmas songs and movies create a perfect image of romantic love, which can either leave you feeling happy and hopeful, or lonely and isolated. Too much mistletoe, sleigh rides together, and Hallmark "happily ever after" can obscure the greatest love story of all, the story of Christmas.
Jesus is Emmanuel – God come in flesh – God incarnate, love incarnate, the embodiment of God's gift of love for us. God is love. He loves us, and He is the source of all true love. All human love is a mere shadow of His pure, divine, amazing, and unfailing love. No human love can match His love, His care, His concern for us. Today as we celebrate the second Sunday of Advent, we celebrate God's love. Today, as we celebrate the 2nd Sunday of Adven, we focus on love. Emmanuel -- God with Us, means that Jesus brought God's perfect love to us, and He is still bringing God's love to us today.

Love is a decision to care about and commit yourself to the person you have chosen as your spouse, until death parts you. It takes more than feeling to build a house, a happy, healthy marriage and family. It takes commitment. The word “build” implies effort, hard work, laboring at a task. Feelings are not enough, they must be expressed in hard work, and you need wisdom to know what to do, what actions to invest your efforts in. Last week, we looked at some of the wisdom from Proverbs for husbands, this week, we are going to look at some of what Proverbs says to wives.

There is so much going on in people’s lives personally: sickness, divorce, financial problems, relational struggles, work issues – that breed fear, anxiety, and despair. There is so much going on in the world – mass shootings, murders, seeming unsolvable political issues, terrorism, etc – so much pain, so much sorrow, so many problems– that if you let, it can cause you view of life to become bleak, and you can become depressed. People need hope. We need hope, and Christmas is hope personified – The main message of Christmas is that Jesus is the hope of the world.

LA BÚSQUEDA DE LA FELICIDAD: TIEMPO PARA SER FELIZ

Ecclesiastes was written by King Solomon, who was the wisest and wealthiest man ever lived, and in this autobiographical book, he shares his lifelong pursuit to find happiness. Solomon shared how he tried wisdom, women, wild living, wealth, and work. He pursued happiness in all the areas that people commonly do, but seeking happiness in any of these things, he said was like chasing the wind. It left him emptier than before, feeling as though everything about life under the sun was meaningless and futile.
This is not just a human being writing the musings of His life, but He is being divinely inspired, so God is speaking to us through Solomon’s laments over his life. Ecclesiastes 3 is a particularly well known passage that is filled with truth that God is speaking to us about where true happiness or joy can be found.

THE PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS: Finding Meaning and Joy (Eccl. 1:8-11)
Solomon grappled with the futility and meaninglessness of life apart from God. In Eccl 1:12-2:11, he recounts his attempts to find happiness and fulfillment by following the well worn paths that people often try, but discovered what people always discover, that none of it will fill an empty life. In the end, He concludes that true joy and meaning can only be found in relationship with God.
