A study by George Barna states that a child’s world view is set by the age of 13, and though there maybe slight tweaks thereafter, rarely do drastic life changes occur after the age of 13. The Bible makes clear that God understands the importance of making sure that from an early age, parents are intentional and consistent about shaping the lives of their children. By the age of 13, the bent of your child’s life will be pretty much set, and that bent or shape will be the product of what Christian author, Ted Tripp, refers to as Shaping Influences, “those events and circumstances in a child’s developmental years that prove to be catalysts for making” them the person they will be for life. Today, we are going to look at several of those shaping influences, and what we can do about them.
