God never intended for Christians to be spectators sitting on the sidelines watching others do ministry. That is spiritually unhealthy.

God's will is for all of us to get into the game. Like football players on the field, God has given every believer certain spiritual gifts, and he has a position for each of us to play. If you have been sitting in the stands, God wants you down on the field. God has called each of us to use our gifts for the benefit of the team, or in other words, to build up the church (1 Cor. 12:7, 14:12), which is God’s agency for advancing His kingdom purpose in the world today. This is His strategy for spiritual growth in our lives, and for church growth to accomplish His mission in the world of redeeming the lost.
